Summer 2011 Newsletter

It is hard to think we are nearly half way through the year already and the Summer Newsletter is required. After a somewhat hard winter, the foaling and show season is upon us.

The AGM and Auction was held at Ossett Town Football club on the 26th February. A good night was had by all and after the meeting several items, donated by members were auctioned off, raising £178.00 for funds. Two new committee members were elected – these being David Allen ( Trenwith Stud) and Juliet Costello (Bluehaven Stud).

The Youngstock show was held at Mill Lane, Selby on 27th March this was well attended with entreis being up slightly on last year. Principal winners are listed below –

On a lighter note, please could we ask that you take all your rubbish home with you, several wagons at the last show left rubbish, which committee members had to clean up at the end of the day. Please, please use the bins provided. Also can we ask you to refrain from smoking on the grounds – for obvious reasons.

If anyone would like to volunteer their services at any of the shows it would be more than welcome, be it stewarding or helping park the wagons, any offers of help would be gratefully received.

The WPCS are again running an Association ‘ Young Judges’ Competition on the Three Counties Showground on the 13th August at 3.30pm. Each Association can enter up to 3 competitors over the 3 age groups of 10-12 years, 13-18 years and 19-21 years. If anyone is interested in taking part and representing West Yorkshire please contact one of the committee, as this has to be entered by Tuesday 12th July 2011. Come on all you budding young judges, give it a go!!

We thought it might be a nice idea if the youngsters from the Association had their own say in the Newsletter, be it results, achievements or breeding. If anyone has any thoughts, ideas or handy hints, please contact Juliet, to get them printed.

A provisional date of Saturday 3rd December has been booked, at Ossett Town Football Club, for the Christmas fancy dress party. As you know this is a great occasion and a chance to let your creative talent show. Please bring your friends and family and lets make this a super event and a night to remember.

Obituary
West Yorkshire WPCA lost a very dear friend in Ruth Sykes. Most people will remember Ruth and her husband Peter, for their many successes with their Paleside section B’s. They showed at all the major shows all over the country with the help of Lisa, who remained Ruth’s dearest friend right till the end.
Although Ruth had not shown for a number of years, she will be very much missed by all her friends, who’s true friendship shone through on the 20th May, as they gathered to pay their last respects to a lovely lady.
As a society we thought it would be a lovely gesture to have a collection to purchase a memorial trophy, for Ruth & Peter Sykes of the Palesides stud, to be awarded at one of the shows. Maybe as the Supreme Trophy. A collection box will be available at the next couple of shows.

Autumn 2009 Edition

Well that’s another show season over all but a few foals shows, but lets not get morbid as we make our way into winter and those dark nights, endless mud, rain, snow & freezing temperatures and our prize winning ponies turning into yaks.

Lets reflect on the wonderful season some of our members have had. I don’t know where to begin and apologise if you have been left out of this newsletter but can only put in what we have been told by you the member.

Christopher Stansfield has had an amazing year with his Sec A geldings Sarum Whirlwind and Sollers Crescendo winning a total of 21 1st prizes and is currently awaiting the results of the W.P.C.S national high Point Junior competition, he has gained 425 points.

Tom & Ann Booth won the 2 yr old Sec C colt class at the Royal Welsh with Cwmhir Owen, and Paul & Dawn won the Sec C colt foal class with Kirkhamgate Rhembrant the colt was sold as a result of this to Ann Sharples. Josh Hampson won the young handler at the Royal welsh this year and this is not the first time this award has come to Yorkshire showing the great potential our area has with the younger generation, no doubt young Chris Stansfield will have his eye on that prize in the near future.

The Welsh National Show at Shrewsbury was a great day for Glynwyn as Henfynyw Mattie won the Brightwells inhand championship and Glynwyn Penny Sweet won the Brynseion Ridden Championship.

Our summer show ran very smoothly no major complaints, this year we included Mountain & Moorland ridden classes to try and bring more exhibitors to our shows as the welsh classes are still not fully supported, so next year we will also put inhand classes on for Mountain & Moorland ponies. This year we also organised a dog show where everyone seemed to have fun including children and adults.

Fayre Oaks

Fayre Oaks had some highs and lows and it wasn’t all about ponies. Poor Margret & Sharon from Lingardswood Stud broke down with the wagon in a lay by between Newtown & Builth and there so called friends tooted there horns & waved as they drove past thinking they where having a cup of tea or is it a brew in Huddersfield, anyway they did eventually get there it was apparently a blow out.

Susan & Robert Hensby from Laith Hill Stud set of to Fayre Oaks to sell there ponies with daughter Victoria and her Husband Darren, as most of us know Victoria was heavily pregnant on the Saturday, but she was about to change things by Sunday as along came new baby Girl born at Shrewsbury hospital Congratulations from all of us.
